The CTEGD Flow Cytometry Facility is located in Room S166 of the Paul D. Coverdell building. Its hours of operation are from 8 AM - 5PM. Trained users may sign up to use any of the analyzers
24 hours a day/7 days a week by clicking here: http://signups.ctegd.uga.edu/
Please contact Julie Nelson at jnelson@uga.edu with any questions or concerns you may have.
Charges are as follows:
All analyzers (FACSCalibur, HyperCyAn, and CyAn)
$50/hour for UGA researchers
$75/hour for other research universities
$100/hour for biotechnology/industry
The MoFlo cell sorter - $75 set up fee with hourly fees as described above.
Bio-Plex - $25/hour for UGA researchers, $37.50 for other research universities and $50/hour for biotechnology/industry
Becton Dickinson Facscalibur
The FACSCalibur ( Becton Dickinson ) flow cytometer can analyze cells or particles based on up to 6 different parameters (see list below) using two different laser excitation wavelengths simultaneously, 488 and 633. This is a very user-friendly instrument that trained individuals may use without assistance. Users must attend a training session before operating this instrument.

488 nm excitation:
- FL1 - 530/30 BP filter used for FITC, AlexaFluor 488, GFP, YFP, CFSE, Vybrant Green and PKH67
- FL2 - 585/42 BP filter used for PE, PKH26, DsRed, Vybrant orange, PI
- FL3 - 679 LP filter used for PerCP or PE-Cy5 (aka tricolor)
- FL4 - 661/16 BP filter used for APC or Alexa Fluor 633
Beckman Coulter CyAn and HyperCyAn
The CyAn and the HyperCyAn (Beckman Coulter) have three laser excitation wavelengths, 405, 488 and 610, that are capable of analyzing 11 parameters simultaneously at speeds up to 20,000 events/second. These cytometers are useful for those searching for rare cells and those with applications requiring more than 4-5 colors to define a cell population. The CyAn is designed to be user friendly and most investigators are comfortable with it after one or more training sessions. The HyperCyAn has the added capability of sampling from a 96 well or 384 well plate.

Beckman Coulter MoFlo XDP
The MoFlo XDP ( Beckman Coulter ) cell sorter purifies or enriches populations by sorting cells or particles based on 7 different parameters using either or both of the following excitation wavelengths - 488, or 633. The MoFlo XDP can sort at speeds up to 60,000 events/second, and can sort single cells into any multi-well platform. Anything that can be visualized on a flow cytometer may be sorted. Researchers interested in using the MoFlo XDP should contact Julie Nelson (see above for contact information) to schedule a consultation.
